Cuba Hosts Event on Quality of Life in PainHavana, Jan 20. -Outstanding Cuban and foreign experts attended the opening on Wednesday of the 2nd Workshop on Quality of Life in Pain, Pediatric Pain and Rehabilitation at the San Geronimo University Center in Hava.

The sessions began with remarks by the UNICEF representative in Cuba, Dr/ Jose Juan Ortiz Bru, and include master lectures on pain, pathways, neuro-plasticity, molecular targets in treatment and neuro-immunology, among others.

The two-day event will also review aspects such as myths and reality of pain in newborns, the use of imaging and psychology, and psychology in affected patients.

Chronic pain is considered a health problem because it interferes with people's quality of life and accompanies a great number of diseases that affect people from all ages.

The forum is sponsored by the Department of Quality of Life, Health and Happiness of the University of Medical Sciences in Havana, along with the scientific societies of Pediatrics, Physiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with the collaboration of the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM).

The Unidad Estudio y Tratamiento del Dolor-ALGOS Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Spain, Centre for Pediatric Pain Research from the IWK Health Center of Dalhousie University in Canada, and the Havana City Historian's Office are also participating in the event. (Prensa Latina)
