U.S. Recalls Energy Drinks from Markets

Washington, Dec 16. -Drinks containing a mixture of caffeine and alcohol were recalled from the U.S. market because they cause addiction and increase risk behaviors.

Its fruit taste masks the alcohol whose concentration is 12 percent stronger than normal beer. A can of 694 ml can have as much caffeine as a cup of coffee, said U.S health officials.

While containing stimulants, people continue to drink without realizing they are drunk, so the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States ordered to take them away the market.

Energy drinks are popular among young people to stay awake. These drinks create addiction and increase risk behaviors as drunk driving, or be perpetrators or victims of sexual assault, according to several studies.

An investigation by the University of Florida among more than 800 students showed that drinking alcohol mixed with caffeine rises three times more the likely to leave a bar being intoxicated .  (Prensa Latina)
