Cuba Marks Anniversary of Convention on the Rights of the ChildHavana, Nov 19. -Special morning assemblies in schools throughout Cuba on Friday marked the start of celebrations for the 21st anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child .

Children and teenagers will debate on what has been achieved and what most urgently needs to be done to ensure all children the full enjoyment and exercise of their rights, said Yamile Ramos, president of the Jose Marti Young Pioneers' Organization (OPJM), which is for students from fourth to ninth grades.

That means respect, assurance and the exercise of rights recognized by the UN convention, such as those of associating and expressing, with total freedom, their views, and being heard and taken into consideration, Ramos said.

Every elementary, junior high, and special education school will discuss the convention, their rights and how they should be respected, as well as what is happening in the world with hundreds of millions of children like them, she said.

The celebration also includes sports, cultural and recreational festivals, displays, contests, skill games, excursions, and camping outdoors. (Prensa Latina)
