Raul Castro: Communist Party Congress, Conference, in 2011Havana, Nov 9. – The Cuban Communist Party will hold its sixth congress in April 2011, as well as a national conference, Cuban President Raul Castro announced.

Addressing an event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Cuba-Venezuela Integral Cooperation Agreement, Raul Castro said the congress would focus on solving economic problems and fundamental decisions for updating the Cuban economic model.

This will not just be a meeting for those elected as delegates, but also will include a previous discussion process by party members and the people in general on the general lines to be adopted, the Cuban president stated.

The April congress will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs victory in 1961, and the proclamation of the Cuban Revolution's socialist character.

This will be the Congress of the entire people, which will participate in making the main decisions, Raul Castro emphasized, reaffirming that the existence of the Revolution depends on the economic battle.

The proposed main lines of economic and social policy will be published Tuesday and a national seminar with leaders and experts will start immediately, the Cuban president announced.

Seminars will take place in all municipalities November 12-30, and the same process will take place with the masses will take place from December 1 to February 28. Opinions and suggestions will be collected and taken into consideration for the document, Raul Castro stated.(Prensa Latina)
