Santa Cruz prevent communicable diseases Santa Cruz del Sur, May 7. –Several activities such as the prevention, talks, the vaccination of the people and the vast media coverage of the subject are part of the measures taken by the Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology in Santa Cruz del Sur  to fight diseases like the leptospirosis, the tapeworm, the brucellosis, and the rabies, which are diseases that pass from animals to human.

This is according to Doctor Eduardo Fonseca Amador, Local Zoonosis Chief, who emphasized on how careful the population must be now in this new hurricane season where the conditions for these diseases to proliferate grow stronger.

Leptospirosis is the major spread disease in this season, that is why we see a rise of the in the number of rodents in the communities. And these diseases represent the major risk for the City Center and the Cándido González settlement, because of the existing population density.

According to Fonseca Amador, measures like keeping the house and neighborhood hygiene, and also going to see the doctor in case of suspicious symptoms or being bitten by one of these infectious animals are critical factors in the fight against those sufferings, so as to avoid cases that endanger the life and health of the communities from Santa Cruz del Sur.
