PARLATINO Studies ALBA Challenges, Achievements

PARLATINO Studies ALBA Challenges, Achievements Havana, May 28. -The Acting President of the Latin American Parliament (PARLATINO), Amilcar Figueroa, said today that the meeting of the group begun here today will assess the challenges and achievements of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America (ALBA).

Attended by 70 parliamentarians from 13 countries, the president said the forum is an opportunity for countries of the area outside the initiative created by Venezuela and Cuba in 2004 to spread the challenges, achievements, and prospects.

The ALBA, also integrated by Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, has concrete proposals to help revive the idea of unity built by the liberators, said Figueroa. "It is a feasible utopia" stressed while denying it was the panacea that can solve all problems after mentioning the colonial cases of Puerto Rico and Curacao.

For us, he said, the ALBA is a point which moves in the midst of the crisis of the civilization model. (Prensa Latina)
