Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba Intensified

Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba IntensifiedWashington, Mar 31 (Prensa Latina) The US National Committee for the Release of The Five Cubans called supporters of its cause to join the signatories of the Stop the Attacks against Cuba petition, a press release confirmed on Tuesday In response to an action by the European Parliament, the Mexican chapter of "Network in Defense of Humanity" is gathering signatures to support an international petition that condemns the unwarranted and hypocritical interference in Cuba's internal affairs, the communique says.

Signatories include international figures, as ex Atorney General Ramsey Clark, philosopher Noam Chomsky, Bolivian President Evo Morales, and US actor Danny Glover.

The recent death by hunger strike of an ordinary prisoner in Cuba has generated a series of attacks against the island, including a resolution by the European Parliament, the text says.

The Cuban National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), has condemned that resolution, declaring that "if there is one field in which our country does not have to defend itself in words, because reality is irrefutable, it is in that of the fight for the lives of human beings."

The initiative by the Network in Defense of Humanity gathers signatures by intellectuals, academicians, social fighters, thinkers, critics, and artists to condemn the European parliament's interference in Cuba's internal affairs, after the March 11 resolution.

This an interfering action that we reject by virtue of our commitment to the principles of non-interference and self-determination of countries, and against the colonial philosophy, the declaration says.

The European Parliament is trying to justify its interference in the Cuban internal political affairs, manipulating the case of an ordinary criminal through the media.

Previously, the Salvadorian Coordinating Office of Solidarity with Cuba had condemned the media campaign unleashed against the island, with the purpose of damaging the 50-year Cuban Revolution's prestige.

The Nicaraguan Coordinating Office of Solidarity with Cuba also reiterated its condemnation of this media campaign in the United States and Europe against the island and ratified its support to the country.

The national Committee for the Release of The Five is defending the cause of antiterrorists Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez and Ramon Labañino, who have been in prison in the United States since 1998, for defending the Cuban people from attacks from US territory.
