Cuba Participates for the First Time in World Gymnastics in Baku

Baku, Apr 28 .-The Cuban team of rhythmic gymnastics participates for the first time in the ”AGF Trophy 2019 World Cup” held in Baku, diplomatic sources reported.

 

New athletes compete in individual competition and also present a routine in groups.

The Cuban ambassador in this country, Alfredo Nieves, and the coach of the Cuban team, Nely Ochoa, highlighted the Cuban athletes prepared for the event and hope to get experience for future international competitions.

Ochoa stated the team is commanded by Cuba’s queen of rhythmic gymnastics, Gretel Mendoza, who fights in individuals.

The coach valued the high competitive level of the event and the rivalry between the athletes of the post-Soviet region. For his part, Nieves highlighted the youthfulness of the Cuban representation and the hospitality and conditions created by Azerbaijan to ensure an excellent World Cup in this discipline.

The Cuban team, which is now on its first European tour in a decade, is aiming to classify for this year’s Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, and will soon take part in the Spanish Cup.

The Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup FIG ‘AGF Trophy’ is held at the National Gymnastics Arena until Sunday, with the participation of more than 200 gymnasts from 39 countries. (Prensa Latina)
