Cuba Insists on Nuclear Ban at Argentinian Forum Buenos Aires, Aug 23 .- The only way to guarantee that human kind will never again suffer the terrible impact of nuclear weapons is their ban and total elimination, said Cuba in an important forum on nuclear disarmament in this capital.

Cuba stand was reiterated by Deputy Head of Multilateral Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, Rodolfo Benitez, before the General Conference of the Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (OPANAL), in session here.

Cuba is also expected to emphasize on the exclusive use of nuclear material and facilities for peaceful purposes and will call for banning the test, use, development or acquisition of any nuclear weapon by any mean.

"Nuclear disarmament cannot remain a neglected goal," said the Cuban delegate, who urged OPANAL to set concrete deadlines for its complete, verifiable, irreversible and transparent implementation, as "humankind remains under serious risk of annihilation because of the existence of more than 17,000 nuclear weapons worldwide."
