Election of Pre-candidates to the World Festival of Youth and Students Underway in CamagüeyCamagüey, Aug 9. – A total of 400 young people have been chosen in Camagüey as pre-candidates for representing Cuba in the 18th World Festival of Youth and Students, which should be held in Ecuador December 7-13.

According to Roberto Conde Silverio, First Secretary of the Young Communist League (UJC) in Camagüey, the election process has been done only in workplaces, and once the academic year begins in September the same process will continue in schools of this province.

Conde Silverio said that all pre-candidates elected which should be a total of 1,800 youngsters will be further acknowledged by the UJC National Bureau, because their merits and results have been praiseworthy.

One characteristic of this process is that any young man or woman, whether she or he is member of the UJC or not, has the right of being pre-candidate to the festival.

On November 7 and through secret and direct ballot, the members of this organization will finally elect seven persons for the summit. The chosen ones and other two direct delegates will represent Camagüey province in the Cuban delegation that will fly to Quito in December.

The 18th World Festival of Youth and Students, the fourth that is held in Latin America (Cuba 1978 and1997; Venezuela 2005 and Ecuador 2013) will pay tribute to Eloy Alfaro, notable figure of the Ecuadorian history, to the 50th anniversary of the Pan-African Movement and to the very dear friend of Cuba and late President of Venezuela Hugo Chávez Frías.
