Cuba Reviews Materials for New School YearHavana, Aug 28.- Education Minister Ena Elsa Velazquez has reviewed the materials the country will need for the new school year, starting September 3, media reported today.

During a meeting held in the central province of Sancti Spiritus with administrators and teachers, Velazquez insisted that facilities and school materials should be ready in all educational centers throughout the country.

The minister also stated that the country should work to strengthen the methodological training of teachers and professors, and expressed interest in health and hygiene education in educational establishments.

Our students and workers have to gain an understanding of best health practices, and in that sense must maintain good hygiene to prevent possible outbreaks of infectious diseases, she said.

During another similar meeting held in the eastern province of Granma, Velazquez called for improvement in teaching and to fight academic fraud.

The 2012-2013 teaching period will be decisive in terms of strengthening changes in Cuban education, implementing guidelines adopted by the 6th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba and the objectives of the First National Conference of the Party, the minister said. (Radio Cadena Agramonte)
