Int’l Biennial of Cuban Radio Concludes

Havana, Aug 24. – The 1st International Biennial of the Cuban Radio closed at a Havana's hotel, bringing together specialists from the island and three Latin American countries since August 20.

The event allowed for four days exchange between Cuban broadcasters and creators from Venezuela, Colombia and Mexico, according to organizers.

The event, which celebrates the 90th anniversary of the island's media, expects today a meeting between its participants and relatives of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in the United States since 1998, according to the program.

Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez were detained on September 12, 1998, in the U.S. city of Miami.

A space devoted to literature in the Biennial included the launching of several titles published in the last five years related to the radio.

Parallel to this event is the Communication for Development panel, sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

Dramatized programs, Musical show on the radio, and The radio in the global media context, are, among others, issues discussed by national and foreign specialists.(Prensa Latina)
