Cubans Pay Tribute to their Martyrs in Santiago de CubaSantiago de Cuba, July 30.- On behalf of all the Cuban people, citizens in this eastern city will pay tribute Monday afternoon to the heroes of the Revolution on National Martyrs Day.

Santiago citizens will march to the local Santa Ifigenia cemetery to pay homage to their martyrs, including Frank Pais and Raul Pujol, two leaders killed in action during the struggle against the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship.

Frank Pais, who was a leader of clandestine operations with the July 26 Movement was killed along his comrade 55 years ago.

Neighbors in Santiago have put up Cuban and July 26 flags in their home balconies in commemoration of the date, while several rallies will be taking place during the day where people will lay wreaths at the tombs of the revolutionary fighters.

The funeral of Frank Pais and and Raul Pujol, 55 years ago, turned into a huge people’s demonstration challenging the former dictatorship, which was finally defeated by the 1959 triumph of the Cuban Revolution. (Radio Cadena Agramonte)
