Evo Morales to Preside Over Physicians” Graduation

Cochabamba, Bolivia, Mar 24. – Bolivian President Evo Morales on Saturday will chair the graduation ceremony of hundreds of physicians who studied in Cuba.

Health Minister Juan Carlos Calvimontes will accompany Morales at the graduation ceremony of 679 physicians at La Coronilla Coliseum in Cochabamba.

The graduates began their studies at the Havana-based Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), although they concluded them in several Cuban provinces.

Since 1998, when the ELAM was inaugurated as an initiative of the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, hundreds of Bolivians have graduated from that center, a number that might increase twofold in coming years.

The ELAM graduates offered their solidarity to Haiti in early 2010, after an earthquake devastated that Caribbean country, and returned to their homeland to take health care to the most remote places.(Prensa Latina)
