Successful Presentation of Tumba Francesa of Cuba in HaitiPort au Prince, Mar 22. – The Association Tumba Francesa La Caridad de Oriente in Cuba was warmly welcomed here as a special guest to commemorate the International Day of Francophonie.

Invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship and the Ministry of Culture and Communications of Haiti, the Association of Cuban artists proved to be the special guest to commemorate such important date in this country.

In a ceremony presided over by Foreign Minister Laurent Lamothe, the celebration was attended by several ministers, parliamentarians and representatives of the diplomatic corps in Haiti.

Among the audience there were also Cuban collaborators serving in Haiti and Cuban residents who enjoyed this art consisting primarily in Creole songs and dances in traditional costumes in the style of the eighteenth-century French court.

The Tumba Francesa was founded in 1862 by slaves of French settlers Danger and Venet, who emigrated to Santiago de Cuba fleeing the Haitian Revolution in 1804.

Its formation is empirical and knowledge have been passed down through the generations, and at this moment is in the eighth generation of promoters of the genre.

The Tumba Francesa was also invited to a program of one of the most important TV channels of the nation Radio-TV Ginen and plans to participate in a gala at the Ministry of Culture and Communications.

This Association, which keeps alive the culinary arts, clothing, music and customs of its founders, was declared Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO and on the occasion of its 150th anniversary, came to perform its art to the descendants of its own inspiring and founders.(Prensa Latina)
