Lourdes Gourriel Recovers from Dilated CardiomyopathySancti Spiritus, Cuba, Feb 2. – Lourdes Gourriel, one of the greatest Cuban batters of all times, is recovering from a dilated cardiomyopathy, according to Thursday's medical report.

The former coach of the Sancti Spiritus baseball team was admitted last Tuesday at the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial Hospital, 350 kilometers east of Havana, where he was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy.

Cardiologist Ricardo Rodriguez told local media that Gourriel is reported as seriously ill.

So far Gourriel has had no complications, speaks and apparently has nothing, and says he feels well, said Rodriguez.

Gourriel, known as the Hero of Parma after he hit a home run that tied the game against the U.S. team in the World Cup in Italy in 1988, said he felt much better after following the doctors' indications.
