President Says Brazil´s Development Depends on Education

Brasilia, Jan 16. -President Dilma Rousseff assured on Monday that Brazil´s development depends on the education, so educational programs are very important and strategic for youths, families and the country.Rousseff said in her regular radio program on Mondays, "Coffee with the President", that she believed that education was the main tool to conquer each people's dreams and also for Brazil to continue growing, distributing incomes and being a land of opportunities for all.

She added that nothing is more important than education when talking about income distribution and security for the future. She also talked about several educational programs that enable and facilitate the access of disadvantaged youth to higher education.

Therefore, Rousseff said that the Unified Selection System (SISU) for public universities and the University for All (Prouni) program for private institutions have democratized people's access to higher education in Brazil.

These two plans only created 300,000 places for the new academic year that begins at the beginning of the year and for which candidates are selected on the basis of their grade in the National Higher Education Test, said Rousseff. (Prensa Latina)
