Cuban Authors to Compete in Int’l Cookbook Fair

Havana, Dec 20. -Five books by Cuban authors will vie for awards in the international Gourmand World Coookbooks Award contest, including Co-Cine. El discurso culinario en la gran pantalla (Co-Cinema. The Culinary Discourse on the Big Screen) by Frank Padrón, sources from the organizing committee sources confirmed.

Published by the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), the book was chosen in the category of food literature, while Comiendo con Lezama (Eating with Lezama) by Alejandro Montesinos and Madeleine Vazquez, published by the Oriente publishing house, will compete in the category of best book of Culinary History in Cuba.

Montesinos and Vazquez will also compete with Comiendo en Casa (Eating at Home), published by the Ciencia y Teconoligia publishing house, in the category of best television cookbook.

Others works in competiton are Manual de Conservacion de Alimentos y Condimentos por Secado Solar (Handbook of Food and Seasonings Preservation by Solar Drying) by Vilda Figueroa and Jose Lama (Bologna publishing house, from Office of the City Historian), in the section of Sustainable Food.

The book De la Chicha a la Cerveza Plaza Vieja (From Chicha to Plaza Vieja Beer) by Rafael Fernández Moya (Bologna) is also competing in the best beer book and best drink history book categories.

Authors from 162 countries from around the world participate in the contest with texts on food and wine, whose awards will be announced on March 6, 2012, at Les Folies Bergere Theater in Paris. (Prensa Latina)
