Iran, Syria Promote Trade Agreements, Cooperation Plans

Damascus, Dec 14. -Iran and Syria agreed to sign a free trade agreement, whose content was ratified by Tehran´s Parliament, while the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation finished analyzing projects.The Syrian media highlighted on Wednesday statements by Head of the Parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Ala al-Din Boroujerdi, who noted that this agreement represents Tehran´s will to help in moments when Damascus confronts a "conspiracy and violent media campaign headed by the United States and their allies".

The resolution of the agreement presented to the Iranian Parliament was approved by 142 to 12 with 16 abstentions.

On the other hand, Damascus´ Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation decided to create four commissions to put into practice means and mechanisms aimed at strengthening economic ties, trade and investments between the two countries.

Minister of Economy and Trade Mohammed Nidal al-Sha'ar invited a delegation of numerous Iranian entrepreneurs that visited Damascus to take advantage of the opportunities and incentives the government is offering.

The sides analyzed projects in the areas of housing, transport and industry.

The minister recalled that Presidents Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Bashar al-Assad agreed, during their last meeting, to facilitate the conditions to advance free trade and other plans that will now be put into practice. (Prensa Latina)
