Raul Castro Presides over Officials Promotion Ceremony

Havana, Dec 1. -Cuban President Raul Castro presided over the promotion ceremony to the rank of colonel of 65 officials of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), few hours before celebrating the day of that institution.After concluding the act at the headquarter of that institute on Wednesday, Raul Castro talked with the soldiers, all of them graduated of higher level, Granma newspaper states on Thursday.

According to the source, Raul Castro recalled to the recently promoted that the green-olive uniform that identifies the FAR was used for the first time on November 30, 1956, during an uprising carried out in Santiago de Cuba to support the landing of the Granma yacht by the island's eastern coasts.

The arrival of Granma yacht, on December 2, 1956, carrying 82 men led by Fidel Castro, marks the FAR Day and the beginning of the stage that brought about the triumph of the Revolution in January 1959. (Prensa Latina)
