Psychology, Aging, Main Issue at Psicosalud 2011

Havana, Nov 17. -Psychology and aging, a vital subject in the current world, is one of the issues on the agenda on Thursday at the 6th International Conference on Health Psychology "Psicosalud 2011" taking place in this capital.Cuba, immersed in that reality with almost 18 percent of inhabitants over 60 years old, participates in the forum with many papers.

Today´s agenda also includes lectures and presentations of posters on labor stress and quality of life, psycho-ballet, clinical hypnosis, training and human resources, among other issues.

Psicosalud 2011 was opened on Wednesday at Havana´s Conference Center, with the attendance of about 500 delegates from some 20 countries.

In the opening, Cuba´s Deputy Public Health Minister Luis Estruch highlighted the role of medical psychology in the health indicators the country is currently exhibiting.

Low infant mortality rates, increase in life expectancy, over 25 eliminated or controlled diseases, 18 of them through vaccines, are some of the main achievements of this sector, which would not be possible without the support of those professionals, Estruch said.

Including the specialty in primary attention in policlinics and doctor's offices, preventive approaches, and education messages, help to provide a better service and the Cubans´ quality of life, the expert told the press.

Disasters, sexuality, violence, psychology in children and adolescents, will also be analyzed during the event, to be concluded on Friday. (Prensa Latina)
