Preliminary Data: Ortega´s Electoral Victory in Nicaragua

Managua, Nov 7. -With 6.76 percent in polling stations, the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) in Nicaragua is first in the Sunday presidential and legislative elections.Supreme Electoral Council (CSE) president Roberto Rivas stated that the FSLN won with 66.43 percent of votes over the four other adversary political forces.

The judge also informed the national and foreign press the percentages the other parties received: the Constitutionalist Liberal Party (7.1 percent), the Independent Liberal Party (25.52), the Nicaraguan Liberal Alliance (0.2), and the Alliance for the Republic (0.074).

According to Rivas, the number of votes reported was as followed: 177,472 were valid and 5,449 were null.

Rivas stated that these elections were a real civic party, despite the setbacks created by the PLI alliance, due to violence actions leaving over many people injured and the burning of electoral materials. (Prensa Latina)
