G-20 Summit Being Held Amid Tensions, Protests

Paris, Nov 3. -G-20 leaders are meeting on Thursday in Cannes to analyze the debt crisis as thousands of people are holding a summit in parallel in Nice to protest austerity measures.The G-20 Summit, which brings together industrialized and emergent countries, will take place amid tensions in Europe due to Greece´s decision of holding a referendum on the financial rescue program, recently adopted in Brussels.

European leaders had scheduled to present this plan as a credible solution for putting an end to the Greek debt crisis and preventing its expansion to the rest of the Euro zone.

On the other hand, the need to reform the financial system and seek just solutions to the world crisis are issues debated on Thursday in Nice at the Peoples´ Forum, a summit being held in parallel to the G-20 Summit.

Thousands of members of union and social, ecologist and human rights organizations attend the meeting, which is taking place 30 kilometers from the G-20 Summit in Cannes.

The impact of public debt in employment, wages and social expenses are some of the main points of the agenda of the forum, attended by representatives from Spain, Belgium, Great Britain, Japan, Mexico, India, Brazil and France. (Prensa Latina)
