Uruguay to Organize I Youth National Games

Montevideo, Nov 2. -Uruguay will host the 1st Youth National Games from November 6 to 11, to be attended by 2,000 athletes aged 15 to 21 years, who will compete in 16 sports, said the organizing committee.Speaking to Prensa Latina, Oscar Palacios, general coordinator of the event, explained that females account for 40 percent of the athletes.

The sports in competition are chess, athletics, basketball, ball, canoeing, cycling, gymnastics, soccer, football, handball, swimming, skating, baseball, fishing, table tennis and volleyball.

The Olympic Villa will be the so-called Rural del Prado, in Montevideo, according to the specialist.

Palacios said that the initial purpose of the event was to hold the competitions every two years, but in the medium-term prospects are to increase the frequency to every year.

The sports leader said that the program is complemented with lectures, workshops and conferences related to educational issues and health. (Prensa Latina)
