Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba in Mexico

Mexico City, Oct 7. -The 7th Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba was opened at the Esperanza Iris Theater in this capital, in the presence of 1,000 delegates. In his speech on Thursday night, Ricardo Alarcon, head of the Cuban delegation, expressed Mexicans and representatives from 23 countries gratitude for the meeting.

Alarcon recalled that October 6 marked the 35th anniversary of the terrorist attack to a Cubana de Aviacion airplane in midair off the coast of Barbados, killing 73 people.

According to a declassified document from the U.S. government, we know that country was informed in advance of those plans against Cuban civil aircrafts and it did nothing to prevent them, he said.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was responsible for that horrible crime, and the U.S. government later hid all information during the judicial investigation held in Venezuela, Alarcon noted.

He mentioned that the masterminds of the crime, late Orlando Bosch and Posada Carriles, have been lived free in the United States.

Alarcon also talked of the release from prison of Cuban antiterrorist fighter Rene Gonzalez, after a long and unjust sentence, but he is not allowed to return home for another three months. He warned his life is in danger.

Rene Gonzalez, along with Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez Llort and Antonio Guerrero, fought terrorist plans against their country in the United States, and were detained and condemned there, in a clear expression of that government's double standard.

Tamara Vargas, from the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, and Carlos Payan, representing the Mexican people, also addressed the meeting during the ceremony.

Also included were U.S. Gail Walker, daughter of late Lucius Walker -great friend of Cuba and promoter of the Pastors for Peace Caravan-, and Cuban Margarita Morales Fernandez, daughter of one of the victims of Barbados Crime.

Many Mexican figures, Cuban ambassador Manuel Aguilera and diplomats from diverse countries are attending the event. (PL)
