DRC President Ends Cuba Visit

Havana, Sep 28. -Joseph Kabila Kabange, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), concludes on Wednesday an official visit to Cuba, fulfilling an extensive agenda since September 23.During a meeting with his Cuban peer Raul Castro, both presidents reaffirmed their willingness to work for the bilateral strengthening in diverse fields.

As part of the program, the African statesman unveiled a bust of his father, former President Laurent-Desire Kabila, at the Havana´s African Leaders Park.

The visitor also laid a wreath to Cuban national hero Jose Marti at the memorial bearing his name, and visited the pantheon of Cuban internationalist fighters at the Colon Cemetery, to honor those who died defending his homeland and the independence of African countries.

This was Kabila´s first visit to Havana as a president since took office in 2001. In 2006, he was re-elected for another five-year presidential period.

Cuba and the Democratic Republic of Congo established diplomatic relations on April 11, 1974, and currently develop its ties in an atmosphere of friendship. (Prensa Latina)
