Cuba: Jazz Classes Imparted by Lincoln Center Musicians

Havana, Sep 8. -Passion for music has brought members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra to Havana for the second time, to impart jazz workshops and master classes in music schools of Havana city, reported Juventud Rebelde newspaper on Thursday.

This actions are part of the project "Metales a La Habana" created in 2010 after the Lincoln Center Orchestra form New York (JALC) visited Cuba, told the methodologist of the National Center of Art Schools, Enrique Rodriguez Toledo.

Classes started on Wednesday at the Conservatory School Guillermo Tomas in Havana and will continue on Thursday with a workshop and a master class for elementary level students at the Residential Cultural Complex of Students in Havana.

Musicians are scheduled to meet students of the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory Thursday afternoon and with students of the National School of Arts on Friday. US musicians visit to Cuba will end on Saturday with a big concert at the Sala Avenida movie/theatre, only for students and invited musicians.

Carlos Gabriel Enriquez, a member of the jazz orchestra, said that this visit is very important for the entire band and that they are fulfilling their promises with music schools in Cuba.

He announced that musicians from his country will keep coming to Cuba to exchange with students and give them all the possible support. (Prensa Latina)
