Honduran Foreign Minister Announces Visit to Mexico Tegucigalpa, Jul 29. – Honduran Foreign Minister, Mario Canahuati, announced he will devote next week to Hondurans living in Mexico.  Canahuati plans to conduct a working visit to Mexico from August 1 to 6 and open a consulate in San Luis de Ayucar, State of Mexico.

He said he hopes to meet with his Mexican counterpart, Patricia Espinosa, to discuss matters related to Honduran immigrants in the country.

Canahuati will also visit a shelter for immigrants, the four Honduran consulates in Mexico and will meet with immigration authorities.

Canahuati said that he will tour four Mexican prisons to assess the situation of Honduran prisoners there and process their return.

This is based on a bilateral agreement for prisoners to serve their sentences in the country of origin.

Mexico is a transit country for thousands of Hondurans who annually migrate to the United States illegally in search of opportunities.

A total of 26 Hondurans were among the 72 victims murdered by drug traffickers in 2010 in the northern Mexican city of Tamaulipas.(Prensa Latina)
