Cuban Science Festival Combines Recreation, Learning

Havana, Jul 16. -The 4th Festival of Science and Technology for children and youth begins Saturday at Havana''s Almendares Park, sponsored by the UN Children''s Fund and several Cuban institutions and organizations.The need to increase interest among children and adolescents in scientific and technological careers and environmental conservation were the main objectives of this year's festival, coordinator Elizabeth Salas told reporters.

The event's program included activities such as the protection of the environment and natural resources, and the study of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, fishing, food, design, water resources, and energy, it was revealed.

Activists from community and cultural projects also will join the festival, which will feature the presentation of experiments and displays such water-powered rockets, solar panels, exhibitions of animals and plants, telescopes, and a traveling planetarium. (Prensa Latina)
