Cuba Hosts Intl Medical Congress

Cienfuegos, Cuba, Apr 12. -Prior courses started on Monday marked the beginning of the Sixth International Congress on Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with main sessions scheduled for April 13 and 15 at the Gustavo Aldereguia Lima Hospital (GAL), in Cienfuegos, in central-southern Cuba.

Doctor Liliana Caneiro, from the Organizing Committee, confirmed the attendance of nearly 300 delegates, half of them foreigners.

The Third International Meeting on Information and Research Management in Rehabilitation will be held as a sideline event.

Several Cuban and foreign firms specializing in physical rehabilitation-related items will mount exhibits and make donations later to the GAL.

The national program of the Public Health Ministry has rehabilitation centers in 22 polyclinics and also in another 24 facilities in remote communities of Cienfuegos, 155 miles from Havana.

They are run by multidisciplinary teams made up of physical therapists, defectologists, podiatrists, speech therapists and psychologists, among other related specialties. (Prensa Latina)
