Oil and Risk Management at Cuban Geoscience ConventionHavana, Apr 4. -The environmental regulation approach to risk management for deepwater oil exploration is the subject of the opening presentation Monday at the 4th Cuban Earth Sciences Convention, Geociencias 2011.

Ulises Fernandez of the Regulatory Office of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), will give the opening presentation.

Cuba has a legal framework, as well as technical and risk management capacity, for preventing crude spills during deepwater oil exploitation.

"The current state and development of mining in Cuba" and "'Satellite technology at the service of Earth Science" are other master lectures to be presented on the first day of Geosciences 2011.

The presentations will be made by Cuban Basic Industry Deputy Minister Ivan Martinez Leyet and Nuris Orihuela Guevara of the Central University of Venezuela, respectively.

Professionals from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, the United States, Canada and Australia are attending Geosciences 2011.

The April 4-8 event includes five congresses and workshops, as well as a technology fair and services associated with geosciences. (Prensa Latina)
