Merida Ends BNC Tour of MexicoMexico City, Apr 4. -The National Ballet of Cuba ended its tour of Mexico on Sunday with a final performance in Merida.

Since March 16th, the company had brought its talent, devotion and mastery to Cancun, Villa Hermosa, Chetumal and Cozumel with classic pieces like Swan Lake, with choreography and direction by prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso.

At the farewell ceremony, Mayor Angelica Araujo Lara presented Alonso with the Merida de Honor y Mensajera de la Paz prize for sharing her art and sensitivity with the city.

"I hope that the people of Merida, especially its women, are so inspired by you that they aspire to be like you, prima ballerina assoluta," the mayor commented.

Araujo also praised the efforts of local authorities to invite icons from different branches of the arts, such as the National Ballet of Cuba. (Prensa Latina)
