U.S People Support Moratorium on Nuclear Stations

U.S People Support Moratorium on Nuclear StationsWashington, Mar 23. -Most U.S citizens would support a moratorium on building nuclear power plants to generate electricity, after the events in Japan, according to opinion surveys.

The United States has the largest number of nuclear power stations on the planet, 104 plants that generate 20 percent of the electricity.

Independent Senator Joseph Lieberman recently called for a moratorium on nuclear plant construction, assuming that 23 facilities in the country use technology similar to that of Fukushima.

A recent survey on the subject found that 53 percent of those polled would support a moratorium on building new nuclear reactors and choose renewable energies like wind and solar.

The alarm in the United States remains but health authorities reported that levels of radioactivity in Washington, from Japan, are low.

According to the Health Department the contamination is not a health hazard.(Prensa Latina)
