Cuba Special Education System Marks 49th AnniversaryHavana, Jan. 4. -The Cuban special education system marked its 49th anniversary on Tuesday, with over 40,100 students enrolled in various education centers around the country.

According to official figures, Cuba currently has 396 special education centers and about 15,000 professionals working in that area, considered by many people as a work of infinite love.

Elementary school students with mental disabilities, autism, and language disorders benefit from this initiative.

Children with blindness, visual impairment, deafness, motor disabilities, and behavioral problems are other beneficiaries.

Schools are not the only method used in the special education system; travelling teachers go to the homes of disabled students who cannot attend school, and to hospitals for children in long-term care. (Prensa Latina)
