Cuban Experience on Disasters Lauded in Venezuela

Cuban Experience on Disasters Lauded in VenezuelaCaracas, Dec 6. -Venezuelan Health Minister Eugenia Sader lauded the experience of Cuban doctors to treat the victims of heavy rains that have affected several Venezuelan states over the past few weeks.

"The Cuban colleagues have great experience in handling disasters," the minister said during a meeting to analyze the health situation in the flood-affected areas.

She highlighted the joint work by Venezuelan and Cuban physicians amid the tragedy.

Over the past few weeks, bad weather conditions have killed 34 people, destroyed thousands of houses and caused serious damage to the road infrastructure in 11 Venezuelan states, some of which have been declared disaster areas, such as Falcon, Miranda, Vargas and the Capital District.

Sader noted that due to its geographical location, Venezuela lacks culture to counter these kinds of natural phenomena.

We are not hit by hurricanes or other situations, thus the importance of the experience of those who do have it, she pointed out.

Cuban medical professionals have offered their solidarity to dozens of countries in Africa, America and Asia, which have been affected by earthquakes, hurricanes and epidemics. (Prensa Latina)
