Venezuela Probes Violations in Opposition CampaignCaracas, Nov 27. -The Venezuelan National Electoral Council is probing the alleged participation of fugitive Manuel Rosales in the opposition campaign for local elections in Maracaibo.

According to a press release, the Commission of Finance and Political Participation will investigate a complaint fuked by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

Rosales, who fled to Peru to evade corruption charges, is the husband of Eveling Trejo, an opposition candidate running for mayor of Maracaibo.

The electoral council banned the use of political propaganda depicting Rosales, the former governor of Zulia who was defeated by President Hugo Chavez in the 2006 presidential election.

In the upcoming Dec. 5 elections, Trejo will face PSUV candidate Gian Carlo Di Martino.

In addition to Maracaibo, the elections will decide mayors in 10 municipalities and governors in Amazonas and Guarico states, and almost two million Venezuelans are eligible to vote.

Campaigning for the regional elections is to conclude Dec. 2.

The electoral council has has called all political forces involved in the race to comply with the law. (Prensa Latina)
