Mar del Plata Film Festival Honors MassettiBuenos Aires, Nov 19. -Argentine journalist Jorge Ricardo Masetti (1929-1964), founder of Prensa Latina, will be recalled Friday during the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, with the showing of the documentary "La palabra empeñada."

Directed by Juan Pablo Ruiz and Martin Masetti, the documentary features previously undisclosed testimony and images of the journalist, who in 1958 climbed the Sierra Maestra mountains as a reporter of Radio El Mundo.

There, he met Fidel Castro and Ernesto Che Guevara, a meeting that joined his destiny to that of the emerging Cuban Revolution.

Films from several Latin American countries are competing in the festival, including Mexico's Abel, directed by actor Diego Luna and starring Christopher Ruiz-Esparza as Aballay, and Argentina's "El hombre sin miedo," by Fernando Spiner Aballay.

The event will close Sunday with the awarding of the gold and silver Astor Prize in five categories, which many expect to go to films from Paraguay, Mexico, or Peru. (Prensa Latina)
