Cuba Dismisses Limits on Social Network Access

Moscow, Oct 7. -Cuban Deputy Minister of Informatics and Communications Jose Luis Perdomo on Wednesday dismissed the idea that Cuba limits its citizens'' access to social networking sites on the Internet, and denounced U.S.-imposed obstacles to communications.

"Cuba is not blocking the access of any citizen to send messages to internet social networks as Twitter or Facebook. This is a defamation that is being spread about our country," the deputy minister told Prensa Latina.

The real fact is that these social networks do not have agreements with Cubaâ�Ös telecommunications company (ETECSA) for cell phone users to send messages to these sites for free, because the U.S. blockade laws against Cuba forbid that, Perdomo underlined.

The continous development of the country's communications infrastructure depends on economic conditions, including access to the Internet, the deputy minister affirmed. (Prensa Latina)
