Brazil: Rousseff Faces Runoff with Drive and Energy

Brazil: Rousseff Faces Runoff with Drive and EnergyBrasilia, Oct 4. -Ruling Workers Party (PT) presidential candidate Dilma Rousseff affirmed on Monday that she would face the election runoff with a lot of drive and energy.

Rousseff won the first round of elections on Sunday with nearly 47 percent of the valid votes of 111 million Brazilians who cast their ballots, out of a total of 135,804,433 eligible voters. The second round is scheduled for October 31.

Rousseff triumphed in 18 of the country's 27 territories, but she did not win a simple majority (50 percent plus one of the valid votes) necessary for her to become the first woman president of Brazil.

The PT candidate will square off against Party of Brazilian Social Democracy (PSDB) candidate Jose Serra, who received more than 32.6 percent of vote. (Prensa Latina)
